Members of the Year

JLEP Active Members of the Year

The Active of the Year is given to a member(s) that has gone above and beyond her Junior League placement.

This year’s recipients, Penny Nevarez and Julie Prilliman, have done just that as Provisional Co-Chairs by affecting the very inner workings of the League which will benefit our membership for years into the future.  Penny joined the league in 2005 and Julie joined the league in 2000.

Both are great leaders with creative forward thinking ideas that helped to reshape the way the Provisional Course is administered.  They used a unique, creative and fun approach that is enduring and memorable.  Councils were assigned different themes to introduce their members to the Provisionals, such as Survivor: Provisional Island, Cheers, and News Team '09

Penny and Julie got started early in the year planning out the new Provisional Course.  Their planning created the excitement among the Councils and made the Councils want to participate in the fun.  The meetings were kept short, informative and interactive. The proof of their accomplishments are the excited and engaged new Active Members of the Junior League of El Paso, who will shape our organization well into the future.

JLEP Sustaining Member of the Year

The Sustainer of the Year Award is presented to a member who, through her spirit of commitment to the standards, ideals, and purpose to the Junior League, has contributed in an outstanding manner.

This year’s honoree, Robin Grambling, is a wonderful example of the impact made by a Sustaining Member.  A 22 year member of the Junior League of El Paso, she has always been dedicated to improving the El Paso community.

Robin, a Past President, has always been generous to the Junior League and our membership for many years, but this year was exceptional. Robin was a fabulous Sustaining Advisor to the Advisory and Strategic Planning (ASP) Committee and was instrumental in contributing great ideas on the Board & Council System as it was originally intended.  Robin trained ASP and the Board and Council on the roles and responsibilities of the Board and the Councils. This helped the incoming Board develop a new timetable of Work Agendas and meeting schedules to be more efficient and effective with the ultimate goal of greater membership satisfaction.  Robin’s time and talents will be appreciated for many years to come with the successful implementation and satisfaction of our newly revised approach to getting business done.
